A Local Top Chef-testant

Catch Seattleite and Taku owner Shota Nakajima on everybody’s favorite reality cooking competition. Top Chef Portland premieres tomorrow night at 8. The chef closed his lauded Capitol Hill concept, Adana, during the pandemic and has struggled to keep his current concept afloat. Nelson German, fresh off his afro-latino cocktail bar opening in Oakland, is also in town to compete. Portlanders include Stacked Sandwiches’ Gabriel Pascuzzi and Soter Vineyards’ Exec Chef Sara Hauman.

Get Your Grubby Little Fingers on some Banh by Lauren

A New York-based Vietnamese dessert sensation has surfaced in Seattle. Typically, those in search of Bánh by Lauren’s pandan-laced goodies have to nail down a pre-ordered box on a competitive release schedule. This weekend, however, Lauren is bringing a la carte treats to North Queen Anne’s Fast Penny Spirits. Show up 11-2 for ube macarons, pandan chiffon cake slices and Bánh Bò Nướng (a Vietnamese sponge cake). Fast Penny Spirits will provide libations.
