Boba Cheese Toast Enters Seattle

Redmond’s MeetTea Cafe debuted in the suburb’s revitalized downtown core in September of 2019. Known for organic loose leaf teas and an extremely popular Boba Cheese Toast, the Cafe is opening it’s second location in Capitol Hill’s Chophouse Row. The space is currently under-going build-out and management is hiring up. MeetTea should have perfect street appeal as the team is opening inside the former Amandine space directly on 11th Ave.

Sichuanese Food to Broadway

Heads up Hill residents, Chef Jerry Traunfeld is bringing the flavors of Sichuan region of China to Broadway. Expect a full bar and plenty of mala heat. Check out the menu here. No opening date has been set but expect the build out and hiring process to put us a few months out. This news follows in the wake of the recent Chengdu Taste opening, a prominent Szechuan restaurant in Los Angeles that has helped to popularize the cuisine. Having dined at many authentic Szechuan restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley, I do question the level of appropriation that Traunfeld will bring to his restaurant.

Never Too Many Macarons

Remember when macarons seemed like a fad? Now it’s 2020 and people still act as if we are discovering the coronavirus cure whenever a new macaron place unveils a wild flavor. Thankfully, Central District residents will not have to travel far for the french sweets. Alexandra’s macarons has officially announced their opening plans on Instagram. The soft opening comes online October 24th with hours from 9-3. Stop by then at the former Tougo Coffee space on 18th & Union for macarons, breakfast, lunch and coffee.

After a 9 Year Run, The Boar’s Nest To Close

Plans to open a concession outpost at Husky Stadium were thwarted as the restaurant announced the closure of their BBQ venture on Facebook. MyBallard reports that The Boar’s Nest will close after 9 years tomorrow. Ballard has not seen as much turnover as many other areas of Seattle but the loss of longtime restaurants can have adverse effects on such a strong community.

Native Brewery Overturns a Centuries-Old Racist Restriction

Eater Seattle has a detailed story on Talking Cider Brewing, the first alcohol production facility to open on Native land. Andrew Jackson placed racist restrictions on alcohol production in the 1830s, barring Native Americans from producing or consuming alcohol. Find the article here. The Chehalis Tribe intends to produce alcohol for their own casino and distribute off-reservation. Talking Cider Brewing is located in Rochester, WA, South of Olympia and quite close to Chehalis.
