Feast in PhinneyWood
For the past 9 years, restaurants in Phinney Ridge and Greenwood have participated in a week-long charity event to support a neighborhood Hot Meal Program. With many local restaurants currently hurting, the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) is encouraging neighbors to eat out at these charitable businesses. The Great PhinneyWood Feast runs from October 19th through 25th. Find the full list of participants here.

Ballard’s First Korean Drinking Den
The city of Seattle may not have endless options for Korean dining but thankfully that is slowly changing. Wes Yoo purchased The Gerald cocktail bar 2 years ago and recently began selling versions of popular Korean dishes to make ends meet during Covid. Now, the bar is becoming a full-fledged Korean restaurant. Tteokbokki and Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) will debut alongside a selection of soju and makgeoli in what is to be a boon for Korean food in the Northern flank of the city.

Sandos at Sip House
Sip House was the second Vietnamese-inspired coffee shop to open during Covid-19 lockdown when they came online in late July. Known for coffee beverages produced with the Vietnamese Phin brewing method, the cafe is part of a larger trend of modern Vietnamese-American dining in Seattle. In the name of cross-promotion, Sip House has recently partnered with Renton’s Sip & Smile to bring you Japanese conbini-style sandos. Options include egg salad, smoked salmon, and a laos sausage with pear.

News from Temple Pastries
The Temple Pastries build-out has felt like a slow one. Possibly because I have been checking for updates every. damn. day. However, we are now in possession of an opening date, according to their Instagram. Mark your palm pilots because October 16 guests can try Christina Wood’s take on croissant and sourdough.

Pike/Pine is Officially Out
A new all-day cafe space is coming to Broadway in the same building as the recently-debuted Rondo, Capitol Hill Seattle Blog reports. Post Pike is replacing Aloha Cup Bap Poke on the busy thoroughfare and will operate at 50 % capacity when it comes online mid-November. Owners from 2 business at the intersection of Pike & 10th have joined forces to develop the new space: Lost Lake’s General Manager Onjoli Dela Torre and Comet bartender Max Lovelace. The name is evocative of a shift away from the Pike/Pine area’s recent nightlife explosion, which has become the “It” place to go out in Seattle. Now, apparently, we are living in a Capitol Hill where the Pike/Pine corridor is officially passé.

A Chinatown Debut
Chengdu Taste, the popular San Gabriel Valley restaurant lauded by the late LA Times critic Jonathan Gold, opened Saturday for take-out. Head to the corner of King & 5th in Chinatown for toothpick lamb and an incredible boiled fish. Chengdu Taste has perfected mala, the numbing spiciness eschewed from szechuan peppercorns which is a defining feature of szechuan cuisine.

And a Dessert Opening in the University District
Many new openings have hit the U district recently despite the fact that many students are taking classes online, far from the ivy-covered buildings of UW’s neo-gothic structures. Roji Monster ice cream is just another of these openings. The monster-themed shave ice chain is currently finishing up their build out near YiFang and Six Pack Foods, planning to open October 26. Expect instagrammable monsterfied black sesame, matcha and thai tea shave ice desserts from a fast expanding Taiwanese chain.
