Seattle’s Juiciest Beef

October is Filipino-American History Month

Among many other things, October is Filipino-American History Month. Filipino-Americans comprise the fourth largest origin group in the US after Mexico, India, and China. Many marched alongside Cesar Chavez during the farmworkers movement of the 1920s and 30s. Celebrate the vibrant history and culture of our fellow Americans by supporting Filipino-American owned businesses listed here.

And a Filipino-American Opening

In other Filipino-American related news, a Filipino owned matcha & taiyaki concept is on it’s way to Georgetown. Matcha Man is known for creamy matcha soft serve doled out in crispy fish-shaped cones, called taiyaki. Owner @dolobeatz has been popping-up around town for a few years and is currently working on the build out at 6014 12th Ave S. The space was formerly home to a cheekily named ice cream parlor “The Seattle Freeze,” located in the same building as Georgetown Records and across the street from Via Tribunali.

Black-Owned Coffee Shop Targeted

An early morning structure fire Thursday heavily damaged a new Shoreline, WA coffee shop in the 16700 block of Aurora Ave. Shoreline PD determined that an arsonist was responsible when they found the remnants of several molotov cocktails on the scene. Black Coffee intended to open Thursday morning as a welcoming space for black youth in the North Seattle community but they will have to push their opening back a few weeks. The business’ instagram was vocally supportive of the Black Lives Matter movement and built an image off of empowering black voices. Donate here to support this community beacon. If you have ANY helpful information call the King County arson investigator non-emergency line at (206) 263-2070.
